OM Madagascar uses sport as tool for reaching youth with the gospel and relationship building.
Over 50 per cent of the population of Madagascar is under the age of 15, yet there are few or no Christian youth programmes currently available. In June 2011, OM Madagascar changed this by hosting a football competition for youth in Antananarivo, the capital of Madagascar.
People in the community were touched, as they had never seen an outreach specifically for young people, and asked the team to plan a competition for next year as well. After the games, each team was given an award—geese or other food items.
A copy of the Bible was also given to each referee as a gift after the competition. One man was overjoyed and said it was the first time he had ever been given a copy of the Bible on such an occasion. OM Madagascar looks forward to continuing sports ministry as a method of reaching young Malagasy people.
