Participants will have the opportunity to travel to the Republic of Moldova, Europe’s smallest and economically poorest country. Moldova is rated sixth in the world on the Human Trafficking Index. Up to one third of children are considered “Social Orphans” as their parents have left the country to find work (unemployment in villages can be up to 80%) or struggle with alcohol addiction. These children are highly vulnerable to exploitation.
The first week, you will serve with a local church organizing day camps for children and youth. Depending on the village, the team may have the opportunity to visit families and elderly people in their home. The second week, you will take part in a summer camp targeting 10-14 year old girls who come from broken homes and abusive backgrounds.
The team will spend one week in a village assisting with summer programs for children with the local church. The second week the team will be running a summer camp for girls aged 10-14 from our Day Centres who have been identified as vulnerable, specifically to be exploited or trafficked. The team will be responsible for planning and leading games, crafts, competitions, befriending the girls and praying with them. Our OM Moldova Relief team is responsible for the moral/spiritual education program.
1. A born-again Christian. 2. Have a heart for the vulnerable, exploited, oppressed and trafficked. 3. Be willing to raise awareness and prayer in your local sphere of influence about the topic of injustice and modern day slavery. 4. Be discrete about sensitive information and agree to not use any photos on social media. 5. Have no criminal record. 6. Able to pass a criminal background check and be cleared to work with vulnerable children.
Upon arrival and before departure you will be staying in the OM accommodation in Chisinau.During outreach you will have one week staying in a church building or with a host family in the village and one week will be spent at a modern Summer Camp facility. Please note that we cannot guarantee the same accommodation for couples and groups
Good Moldovan food is provided. Please be prepared to serve alongside the team and advise us if you have dietary needs.
Participants must arrange their own travel to and from Chisinau, Moldova. The Airport Code for Chisinau is: KIV. Participants will be picked up by OM team members at the airport, train- or bus station.
Participants must be in good health and physically able to stand, bend, lift, walk and do other physical activities as needed.
You can only enter Moldova with a Passport, not an ID card. Citizens from the EU, USA, Canada, Switzerland and a CIS countries do not need a Visa. All others may need a Visa. If a Visa is needed and costs are involved, this is the participant's responsibility to pay the fees.
