The latest census indicated that Mpulungu has a population of about 100,000 people, of which 46% are children. Many of these children are vulnerable or orphaned.
In Zambia, schooling is free for orphans up to grade seven. However, schooling conditions are poor and education is low quality (at this stage there are also no Christian schools in Mpulungu). We have seen the need to reach children ages five to 14. So, in January 2009 we started a school with 40 orphans. In 2015 the school has 140 pupils in grades 1-6.
