BLOG: Photographing through Southern Africa

Katie recounts her experience on the Africa Trek.

OM writer Katie tells us about her journey in southern Africa, where she joined the Africa Trek, and shares images she took of the incredible ministry and people she encountered. To find out how you could be a part of this ministry, visit our website.

This past autumn, I took a break from my full-time OM duties and joined OM Africa's Africa Trek, a three-month discipleship programme that travels throughout the southern part of Africa. It was an amazing time of ministry and discipleship, but it was also a great opportunity to take my camera and capture some shots of rural Africa.

As a first-time visitor to Africa, I was enraptured by the natural beauty of the countries we visited, as well as both the friendliness and openness of the people. I've travelled all over the world, but I'd never been anywhere that reminded me of South Africa, Zambia, Namibia, and Botswana.

God moved in amazing ways during our trek, blessing us with the opportunities to see Him heal bodies, touch hearts, and call souls to Himself. It was an honour to be a part of the miraculous work He continues to do in this part of the world.

Along with the impact we saw in the lives of local people we encountered, we also saw God move in the lives of the trek participants (called "trekkies"). Five of our trekkies even chose to get baptised while in South Africa!

Oh yeah!

And there were elephants!

Now that the trek is over, I can't seem to stop talking about it and my time in southern Africa. It was a life-changing experience, and I can't recommend it enough.

Whether you want to connect with people in Africa, Asia, Europe, or somewhere else, join God where He's working. Take that step and move out of your comfort zone. Experience the Father in a new way and watch Him work through you.

You won't regret it.
