$802 [USD] (participants from United States)
Participants will have the opportunity to travel to the Republic of Moldova, Europe’s smallest and economically poorest country. Moldova is rated sixth in the world on the Human Trafficking Index. Up to one third of children are considered “Social Orphans†as their parents have left the country to find work (unemployment in villages can be up to 80%) or struggle with alcohol addiction. These children are highly vulnerable to exploitation. Through this cross-cultural experience, you will also have the opportunity to grow in your faith and relationship with God.
The first week participants will serve with a local church and organize day camps for children and youth of the village. You may also have the opportunity to visit families or elderly people in the village you will be staying. The second week participants will take part in a summer Sports Camp targeting 10 to 16 year-old boys, who come from broken homes and abusive backgrounds. Football (soccer) will be the main sports used to connect with the boys.
The team will spend one week in a village assisting with summer programs for children with the local church. The second week the team will be running a summer camp for boys aged 10-16 from our Day Centres who have been identified as vulnerable, specifically to be exploited or trafficked.
